OFFROAD & OVERLAND FAQs

  • Each driver must be 25 years or older.
  • Each driver must present a valid driver’s license.
  • If an international traveller, each driver must also present a valid passport.
  • The primary driver must present a credit card with a matching name.

At Colorado Overlander, we require all of our renters to purchase insurance through our provider, MBA Insurance. This purchase is done separately from your vehicle reservation, and the cost is not included in the vehicle rental quote. You must purchase the insurance within the 30 day window prior to your reservation’s departure.

Depending on the vehicle, rates start at $31 per day, with the option to purchase supplemental coverage at an additional cost if desired.

By purchasing MBA overland insurance, you are receiving primary coverage for typical Overlanding usage. This provides a significant insurance advantage compared to other options in the market at the same (if not reduced) cost to the renter.

  • Rentals are charged on a daily basis, by the calendar day.
  • Each rental offers either 150, 200, or unlimited (depending on the vehicle level chosen) miles free per day (taken as a total for the entire rental period), with excess miles charged at $ 0.35 a mile.
  • We have a 3-night minimum on our voyager rentals, 5 day minimum on our Explorer rentals, and a 5 day minimum on our Conquistador rental.
  • Our insurance is required for all rentals to ensure coverage. Our insurance also takes into account necessary background checks of all drivers.
  • Voyager Level: With this level you receive 150 miles per day included with your reservation. If you go over your included allotment mileage is charged at $0.35 per mile.
  • Explorer Level: With this level you receive 200 miles per day included with your reservation. If you go over your included allotment mileage is charged at $0.35 per mile.
  • Conquistador Level: With this level you receive an unlimited mileage allotment with your reservation.
Cancellation Policy
  • You will receive a full refund if canceled at least 60 days before the pickup date.
  • If you cancel between 30 and 59 days before the scheduled pickup date, we will retain the deposit.
  • Cancellations made less than 30 days before the scheduled pickup date will result in retention of the full booking amount. Refunds will be processed within 10 business days of cancellation.
  • Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment.

At Colorado Overlander, we highly recommend experiencing dispersed camping with one of our rentals. We outfit every vehicle with a high quality roof-top tent, giving you the platform necessary to enjoy the “home is where you park it” saying. With your rental you are free to travel anywhere in the United States. We do require that our vehicles stay on the appropriate trails and boundaries. We do not allow our vehicles on OHV, “rock-crawling”, or unrecognized unpaved and unmaintained roadways. The most notable areas that we do not allow our vehicles on is Black Bear Pass, Poughkeepsie Pass, Pearl Pass, and Schofield Pass.

At Colorado Overlander, we strive to maintain a pristine and comfortable environment for all our adventurers. To ensure a delightful journey for everyone, we kindly request that pets not be brought inside our rental vehicles or trailers.

In upholding this policy, we aim to preserve the cleanliness and freshness of our vehicles, providing an enjoyable and inviting space for each traveler. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to this guideline.

In the event that traces of pets are identified within the vehicle or rooftop tent, a nominal fee of $350 will be applied for a comprehensive detailing process. This fee will help us restore the vehicle to its original state, ready to welcome the next set of explorers with the same level of care and comfort.

Thank you for your commitment to a wonderful and respectful journey with Colorado Overlander. Your cooperation allows us to continue providing exceptional experiences for all of our valued customers.

You are expected to take care of the vehicle while it’s in your possession and treat it as if it was your own. You need to select the correct fuel grade when filling up the vehicle. You need to protect the vehicle from potential hazards (weather, rocks, etc.)

You are responsible for any damage to the tires, which includes punctures and flats, rim damage, etc. We maintain our vehicles regularly and ensure that the tires on each vehicle are in good operable shape. If damage occurs while it’s in your possession you are responsible for any charges incurred. This includes patching, and purchasing a new tires if a tire is deemed “irreparable”.

You are responsible for bringing the vehicle back in the condition that it was given. What this means is we expect the vehicle to come back “presentable”. We don’t expect the vehicle to be returned detailed, but it is expected that it is washed and vacuumed. If you fail to do this a $350 detailing fee will be applied.

If the vehicle’s windshield get’s damaged during use it is the financial responsibility of the renter.

Lastly, we understand that our vehicles are going in areas that may contribute to imperfections in the paint. If there is substantial wear and tear to the paint a $350 detailing fee will be charged. If the detailing fee is insufficient and the damage cannot be “buffed out” additional charges will be applied.

We do not allow any smoking of any kind in our vehicles or inside our tents. If we find evidence or smell any smoke inside our vehicles a $1,000 detailing fee will apply.

  • Voyager Level: With our Voyager level we require at least a 3-day minimum to rent.
  • Explorer Level: With our Explorer level we require at least a 5-day minimum to rent.
  • Conquistador Level: With our Conquistador level we require at least a 5-day minimum to rent.

We recommend that everyone use an application like OnX Offroad on their smartphones to download maps for offline use for navigation purposes. We, ourselves use OnX Offroad every time we’re out on the trails.
